Nobody Can Cool

Gotcha!
I love finding things. Original things. This movie is one of a kind, that's for sure. The main character takes her boyfriend on a weekend at a cabin, but when they get there a creepy enormous guy and his pregnant girlfriend are there. I'm not going to give the rest away, but there would be plenty to say if I did. This movie actually has a PLOT. The actors (I never heard of any of them) do a fantastic job on the whole and I got totally sucked into the world of the cabin and what was going on with the story. The relationships between the characters gets tense, and some of the conversations were like my real life, but this movie manages to be hyper real stylish (I want those PJ's Susan wears, she looks like Spiderman) and fun and edge of your seat, too. It's great to find female characters to both root for and against in the same movie (and even switch allegiances from time to time). When it ended, I wanted more (maybe a prequel? sequel?) This movie is brave and kicks ass, and looks good...

Refreshing Departure from Found Footage
Indie movies seem to fall into a few categories lately: found footage, slashers, coming of age or message dramas. This is a solid "b movie"-style thriller. "Susan" grimly takes her obtuse boyfriend, "David" for a weekend away at a log cabin, but when they get there they interrupt "Len" a heavily tattooed, Hawaiian shirt clad, shifty looking guy, and his pregnant, but sinister looking, girlfriend, "Gigi". Len encourages them to stay, and clearly something is going on. The visuals and sound are excellent, and the mood is tense but not without a dash of humor. The story unfolds slowly at first but builds up steam quickly and doesn't let go. There are some admirable experimental seeming camera devices that elevate the movie beyond the usual cheapie. This is a unique independent film that does it right by keeping it small and detailed and shows a lot of future potential for the cast of unknowns, who all turn in absorbing performances, and the directors, who put together a solid suspenseful...

A Well-Developed Script and a Cast that Works Together
Nobody Can Cool proved to be a moody and atmospheric suspense thriller. Its color palate cleverly supports a pair of menacing characters, Len and Gigi, who are awaiting the arrival of someone they fear. Before that encounter, they must deal with the unexpected intrusion of a pair of young professionals, a shallow couple with problems of their own. In a remote cabin that each couple expected not to share, trouble begins when the young professionals discover that their bedroom door has been locked. Not willing to accept this situation, Susan, the more assertive and ambitious of the pair, climbs out the bedroom's window and, as the plot develops, into increasing conflict with the looming Len and the aggressive but very pregnant Gigi.
If Nick Principe, who plays Len, did not say a word, his presence would bring to the screen echoes of the unhinged villains encountered in comic books. He promises to be the constant source of the misery that Susan and her companion will confront...
