Boardwalk Empire: Seasons 1-2 Bundle (Blu-ray/DVD Combo + Digital Copy)

Boardwalk Empire - Seasons 1 & 2 Bundle
If you've seen "Boardwalk Empire" but don't yet own the blu-ray, then this bundle of Seasons 1 & 2 is perfect. If you've never seen the show, I'd encourage you to give it a chance. Everything about this series is spectacular - the acting, the camera work, the production design, etc. This is one of the best scripted shows currently on television, and the story is executed in near-perfect fashion thanks to the brilliant direction. The show is best when viewed quickly over a short period of time, because you really get immersed in the world and follow the intricacies of the story - and blu-ray is the best way to do that.

In terms of the blu-ray quality, HBO has always been great about providing viewers with the best video/audio experience. There are also a lot of special features on the discs, including featurettes and character dossiers. The audio commentary tracks are quite interesting to listen to, the creators of the show (including directors, actors, etc) give their...

Great!
Exelent edition, exelent combo price, if you are a collector you must have it! One of the best series!!! Empire rules!

Boardwalk Empire Season 1 and 2 Bundle
I had only seen a couple of shows and wanted to watch it from the beginning, great show now I need to order season 3

Spark: A Burning Man Story

Ahhhh, almost like being there
The movie was just released on 8/16/13, just in time for those of us who could not attend the 2013 Burn. I woke in the wee hours of the morning, homesick for the playa and the Burn happening just a few hundred miles away as I type. I watched the entire movie and never went back to sleep, now feeling that oh-so-familiar, sleep deprived state that I will carry into the workday as one more reminder of what I am missing on the playa right now.

Now, if the film makers could just make the following additions the documentary would be perfect: Smellovision for the bacon sizzling in the morning, wafting out of some nearby camp and into your nostrils as you awake fuzzy headed from a neon bright night of fun. Heatovision for the noonday sun that turns tents/RVs into hot houses and unprotected skin into red inflamed cells. Windovision for the convectively heated air mass that sweeps over the playa each afternoon and night, creating white outs and sometimes near hurricane force...

Great film, I loved it! Wow! Very highly recommended.
I've always been curious about Burning Man. Watching SPARK was like being there -- the bacchanalian revelry, colorful people, brilliant costumes and incredibly designed 100' high buildings, giant statues -- moving parts of this week long party with soul in the outer reaches of the Nevada desert.

Multiple camera crews on the ground and in the air capture Burning Man by night and day. We see one scene of eerie, surreal beauty after another, and the original music is awesome. This film captures the true spirit of Burning Man -- you are there.

There are plenty of laughs as well. Spark follows two ordinary people, young artists who became extraordinary when they took the step of committing themselves to contributing major art pieces to Burning Man.

The film includes footage of the first Burning Man on a San Francisco beach in the 1980's, shows a Board meeting in crisis mode in 2012, and follows the construction of Burning Man in 2012 on the 'Playa', before...

Fantastic!!
I've always been really curious about what goes on during Burning Man and before this documentary I really didn't know anything about the event. This movie opened my eyes to all of the mind blowing things that go on in Black Rock City during this short time period. I am really glad that I watched this movie, I might even try to go to Burning Man in the future!

It sure helps to entertain when we go out to eat or when we are waiting in a doctor's office. Both my granddaughter and my grandson love Jake.

Bury Me in Niagara

good for GWD fans
Bury Me in Niagra AKA in the USA as Ghost Mom has two notable actors-- Jean Stapleton and Geraint Wyn Davies ( Nick Knight of "Forever Knight"). GWD's characer is a doctor who has an intrusive mother ( Stapleton). When she dies she holds a "lucky pebble", ( a disguised mystical ruby) and her ghost insists that her body be buried in Niagra. Road trip via ice cream truck, pursued by Chinese gangsters who want the ruby, the son finally meets his father. GWD hams it up in various scenes and while the movie lacks some credibility at times, it is a comedy in the same vein as the Hope and Cosby road trip movies. Being a GWD fan I liked to see him in a comedic role as Nick Knight was mainly too angsty.

Not just for GWD fans!
OK -- I admit that I originally only bought this video because I wanted to see Geriant Wyn Davies in something other than Forever Knight.

After watching the video, however, I can definitely recommend this to just about anyone. The movie is light-hearted fun. Jean Stapleton is perfect as the mother who doesn't know when to let go.

The alternate title of "Ghost Mom" would make more sense than the "Bury Me in Niagara" title does. Regardless of what it is called, watch the movie and enjoy yourself for 1

Baby Sellers

A Provocative Lifetime Original: A Solid Storyline Needed More Time To Develop Sufficiently
I'm legitimately torn between 4 stars and 3 stars in my rating for the Lifetime network original movie "Baby Sellers." On the plus side, the film is quite a bit more ambitious than the channel's typical fare. With an intriguing topic, an interesting international cast, and a solid change-of-pace role for Kirstie Alley, there was much to admire in this well-meaning thriller. On the flip side, however, the screenplay takes a difficult subject matter and boils it down into its simplest elements. In "Baby Sellers," one stalwart agent from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) must single handedly lead multiple investigations, repeatedly go undercover, and ultimately take down various human trafficking organizations within the United States, India, Mexico, and Brazil. Let's just say that she is one busy lady! But when played with fiery determination by Jennifer Finnigan, you almost want to believe such a thing were possible! "Baby Sellers," of course, wants to highlight a...

disappointing
i found Kristy Alley's performance rather flat. Very disappointing. I wont watch it again. The storyline is okay but doesn't wrap neatly.

Occupied

Awful, truly awful
My god was this a bad movie. The whole time I watched it I kept waiting for something to happen...but it never did. Go ahead and watch this movie if you feel like spending an hour and a half watching a girl stare blankly into space while she hears two British guys talk in her head. There is no "slow descent into madness" like other reviewers have said. She's normal the first night, then suddenly starts hearing voices. Huge waste of time. I couldn't wait for the end.

Time waster...big time
This movie does not live up to the previous review or reviews that I have read on other sites. I suspect that the positive reviews were written by either relatives of the actors or the actors themselves. This was a difficult movie to follow and understand. It got better toward the end, but not good enough to justify the time wasted viewing this with some family members. Leaving two young females in a cabin in a practically deserted woods is unrealistic. Poor acting--very amateurish and stiff delivery of lines by the actresses. The camp "scary laughter", voices being heard by Sarah and her reaction to the voices are humerous. The waste of food ( a beautiful piece of red meat served raw) was also disgusting. The direction and camera work were also distractions. The wide and long camera shots indicate that the characters are being "watched" when in fact there are only 2 stationary cameras inside the house and possibly one camera that follows the characters. This...

There outgh to be a law....
If you make really bad movies, you have to pay people who watch it and waste their time. I fell asleep during the first 30 minutes and finally just shut it off! If watching someone walk aimlessly around their home is your idea of movie fun, then hit the popcorn popper grab a soda and enjoy. For the rest, forgettabout it!!

Interesting look inside BBQ competition
I give season one 4 stars because it was an iteresting look inside the BBQ cooking competition circuit. The individuals in the show are interesting and entertaining. They also provide some good tips and information to use when cooking.

Best Season Ever
The talent of the pitmasters were on full display. Each brought a little something different to the BBQ world. This series was very informative and entertaining!

What a bunch of self-important blowhards
Other than a few tips on rubs and heat, there's little value to this program. If I wanted drama, I'd watch some horrible show about teen moms.

St Roz

Interesting Premise. Worth A Watch
The 411 by Maria:

Imagine being able to light a candle at a church under a statue of a saint and lose a pound while eating whatever you want? Light 5, lose 5. This is actually what happens in St. Roz starring Rachel Wilson who plays Judy.

When a mysterious statue shows up outside a suffering church, the church suddenly finds itself with more money than a loan shark and undergarment decorations.

Judy is the daughter of the weight loss Queen, Minnie Barr who has helped thousands lose weight. Minnie's goal is to get her daughter the only one she can't seem to help lose weight, quickly married. At her comfortable size 12, (I swear that is all she can possibly be) no man will ever love her. Minnie quickly hires a dashing young man to romance Judy just as Judy finds the statue. She places her money in the box, gets home and finds that wah-la, she has lost 5 pounds and as long as she pays the church and prays, her weight continues to fall off.

Charlie and the Prison Riot [HD]

Anger Management
Really like the show. It is quick, snappy, funny. Charlie Sheen might have his problems, but he carried 2 and half Men, and carries this one. I love his comic timing. Spot on. 2 and half Men, is nothing without Charlie. I wish they would bring him back to that show. And still do this one. Too few sit-com's on T.V. We need a bit of meeriment with all these crime shows on.

Amazing
Such a fun and inventive show. We love it !!!! Thanks to the cast and the writers for this great sitcom !!!

Frankly, better than two and a half men
Charlie Sheen is back in action. With 45 episodes a year, he's quickly gaining ground on two and a half men, which, frankly is almost unwatchable without Sheen.

Amazing
This is a very good program and I particularly like it since it is based on facts and real people. Scary to think that these women actually exist or this behavior occurs and not just in the movies.
My only complaint is that the program spends too much time repeating scenes and talking about what's to happen next.

Gets better every season.
I have enjoyed every season of Deadly Women. Learning the history and trying to figure out how these women's minds work is fascinating.

Favorite episode
I got this for my favorite episode on Annjet Lyles. It's nice to be able to have a season on your computer and not have to dig out DVDs, even though I still love DVDs.

Rock Jocks [HD]

An Uneven, But Amusing, Indie Comedy That Had the Potential To Be A True Cult Classic
It's not surprising that the new indie "Rock Jocks" employs a cast that has a familiar and extensive online presence. In many ways, it feels like an extended web series as opposed to a full fledged feature film. I don't mean this as a huge criticism, it's just that this movie obviously has a tiny budget and seems to have been made on the fly. The entire scenario takes place over the course of about twelve hours and is largely confined to one set. The smartest thing that the movie does is to acknowledge its own inexpensiveness. In a funny bit of introduction to the facility, an antiquated instructional video tells the viewer that the station is populated with state of the art equipment from the 1960s. And it looks every bit that advanced! The facility in question is a top secret Department of Defense project called AMI or the Asteroid Management Initiative. On one overnight shift, the misfits that man the AMI face all the usual workplace issues: boredom, staff conflict,...

Yes, Lasers go *pew* *pew* in space.
Take a small group of people, that don't like each other or their job, stick them in a small top secret bunker, make them sleep deprived, and expect them to save the world...all day and everyday. Laughed out loud too many times to count. A great situational character driven comedy with excellent performances by the cast. Had me drawing parallels between the characters in the movie and the people I have/do work with.

Like "Office Space" in the Military Industrial Complex
"Rock Jocks" is a hilarious and knowing send up of a work environment where the conflicts and duties of a strange high tech project that combines a corporate, government/regulated milieu with area 51 myth inspired, whacked out, 21st century, diverse, recovering, stressed out work force. Think of "Office Space", "Buckaroo Bonzai", and even Monty Python rolled together. Very imaginative and a lot of fun!

Snowbeast

A GREAT DEAL IS LEFT TO THE IMAGINATION -- PERHAPS TOO MUCH FOR MANY VIEWERS
FIRST THOUGHTS: WITH GORE DOMINATING THE HORROR GENRE IT'S NICE TO SEE THE IMAGINATION CALLED UPON AGAIN

For me it is sad to see that most people found 'Snowbeast' to be boring and trivial. I say this because I have enjoyed watching this admittedly tame TV creature-feature with my daughter for the past 15 years. I introduced it to her on Video, having recalled seeing it as a TV movie when it was first released in 1977.

Yes, 'Snowbeast' promises more than it delivers, but I was able to feel OK when allowing my youngsters to watch this rather tame creature-feature which kept their interest without giving them nightmares.

IN A NUTSHELL: SNOWBEAST MAY BE A JAW'S RIP-OFF BUT JOE STEFANO IS AN EXCELLENT SCREENWRITER

One of the reasons that I wanted to see 'Snowbeast' when it was first on TV, nearly 30 years ago, was that the screenwriter, Joe Stefano, was the screenwriter for the original 'Psycho', directed by Alfred Hitchcock, and many of my...

Not bad at all!
I don't get all of the negative reviews. This is a good horror movie. The acting is really good, the snowbeast scared the crap out of me, and the whole movie is just done well. No, this is not as good as Hammer Film's The Abominable Snowman, but it still is a good Yeti flick. Check it out, if you like Yeti movies, I think you will like this.

"Tonight on the C.B.S. late-night movie"
If you grew up in the 70's like me you remember that phrase well. In a time before cable and V.C.R.'s, us old timers had to watch what came on and even had to go to the T.V. to change the channel(unless you could afford the high priced remote T.V.'s of the day). Every Friday night children like myself were treated to an episode of "The Night Stalker" (The best show ever to me at the age of 11) and at least one or two horror movies. "Snowbeast" was one of about five movies that showed up regularly on those long ago nights("Shock waves, "The Devil's Rain", "Race With The Devil" ,and "Terror At 37,000 Feet" rounded out the others) and at least every three to four months one would play.

The story, about a Bigfoot like snow monster was played as "Jaws" in the snow. At the age of 11 this movie was silly, but very cool and even scary at times. With fond memories I bought this one and sat down to get lost in it again one Friday night. Well I'm not 11 anymore and most of the scares...

Perry Mason: Complete Series Pack

This is Not a Boxed Set!
For shame CBS/Paramount - and Amazon. This is NOT a "boxed set" - as it is clearly labeled in the PRODUCT DETAILS, FORMAT SECTION. And I will be returning this item unopened for a full refund.

This item is simply a shrink-wrapped collection of all the individual previous season releases. The first two seasons (4 volumes) are even boxed differently (exactly as they were originally released) and differ from the remaining seasons 3 - 9 which are packaged in narrower DVD boxes.

Worse, they have shrink-wrapped these DVDs in such a way you can't even read the details of even a single season to answer common questions such as format, language, running-time, or whether or not there is closed-captioning/subtitles.

According to the "official" www.cbsstore.com site, closed captioning or subtitles - they use both terms at the site - do not appear as a feature until Season 5, Volume 2.

I was hoping this "boxed set" would have finally rectified that...

When is Warner going to release the movies?
This set is all of the DVDs from all the season's 1-9, which were terrific but this is the same as all the single releases! When are you going to release all the made for television movies that were Perry Mason?

Raymond Burr was a great actor and without using foul language keep people engaged and coming back for more....

I love Perry Mason!
I grew up watching Perry Mason with my grandmother and am very happy to have the whole series. Considering how many DVDs there are I am happy with the price, as well.

I Killed My Mother

Hard
Wow, what a powerful film, a bombardment of strong emotions and frustrations.
I cried, felt sadness and emptyness and though I absolutey adore Xavier Dolan with every inch of my body and soul, he was an unlikeable brat in this one, but relateable at the same time.
Superbly acted, beautifully edited (the painting/love scene!!) and excellently scored, this is a movie for filmlovers and not just gay ones at that.

Colud watch it over and over
Xavier Dolan has the making of a very artistic and sensative director/director...a modern day Bergman? And besides he's so cute.

Interesting first film by Xavier Dolan
I had been wanting to see this semi-autobiographical film for 2 years (since it was never distributed nationally in the U.S.) I really enjoyed his second film ("Heartbeats") and was curious to see the one that proceeded it.

I enjoyed the plot and the acting is very good. If you like foreign films (this is made in Quebecois with English subtitles) you will probably enjoy it. Dolan's character is a bit of a brat and is a little over-bearing. It can be really distracting at times... that's the main reason I didn't give it 5 stars, but YMMV.

I recommend it, as well as his second feature, "Hearbeats."

Time Team: The Team's Favorite Digs

Proving again that archeological science is FUN
Each of this TIME TEAM digs are a great adventure for even the novice archeologist. I've never viewed a disappointing Time Team show. Educational? Yes, with a team lead by fast-paced and funny Tony Robinson, science is fun. Experts keep the show hopping. Use of geophysics, back hoes, trowel & brush, and even machetes in one location. Fantastic artist renderings help the uneducated-but-interested visualize what the experts see in stones, shards, and coins. The bonus stuff makes this set a total of 11 episodes. More bonus in a viewer's guide. A documentary with the look of prime-time TV.

SUBTITLES provided for each 3-day episode dig.

Fun Look at Archeology
I've always been fascinated by archeological digs. There is something about touching the past that has always enthralled me. In Time Team, you get to follow leading archeologist, Tony Robinson, as he explores some of his favorite dig sites. The team goes around the world unearthing lost treasure from roman antiquities in Wales to a possible slave quarters in the West Indies. There are always challenges to overcome. Sometimes jungles have overgrown the area they want to search and they always have to deal with whatever mother nature throws at them on their time pressed schedules. The show never gets overly technical, making every discovery easy for the average person to understand, but still offering an exciting new educational look into the past and the process of a dig. I enjoyed watching this series along with my older children. They had no trouble following and it made for an educational family movie night.

Wee Man [Blu-ray]

TEDDY BEAR PICNIC
This is based on a true story about Paul Ferris (Martin Compston) and his relationship with the Thompson Scottish crime family lead by Arthur Thompson (Patrick Bergin). The story is told with flashbacks as Paul remembers the good advice his dad gave him and he didn't follow. Growing up, Paul was bullied by the Banks brothers and turned to crime. He was recruited by the Thompson family and ran into internal conflicts.

The story was interesting. The flashbacks worked fine to break up the story as a mini subplot. The acting was a bit dry as Wee Man lacked personality.

Might work as a rental.

Parental Guide: F-bombs, partial rear male nudity, attempted rape.

Not so `True Life' account of Gangster Paul Ferris but still quite good.
Ray Burdis has been an entertaining talent to British audiences since the 1970's others may remember him from spoof cop series `Operation Good Guys' or even the excellent film `Love, honour and obey'; either way he also directs and writes. This is his take on the auto biography of Paul Ferris the notorious gangster from Glasgow. Ferris is played by Martin Compston (`Sweet Sixteen', `Sister' and `Strippers vs Werewolves' - cant win em all) and as ever he really delivers.

The film takes us back to Ferris' early days and the Glasgow of the 1970's when he was picked on by the Welshes for supporting the wrong team and as a result he claimed he developed debilitating psoriasis (in his book). His father tells him to be a lion and never a lamb and after being pushed too far he becomes just like them. Only a lot more violent. Thus begins his life of crime and violence.

He gets sent to a detention centre and after a few more run ins at the age of just nineteen the local...

Thoroughly enjoyed this DVD and glad the Isaacs are back on DVD again.

Just like the DVD title says
This is a hour and a half conversation with the Isaacs with Bill Gaither asking the questions and providing the glue. Most of the videos are from previous Gaither DVDs but there are a few "live" songs thrown in. I have most of the Gaither/Isaacs videos and have seen them in concert several times, so there was not much new material for me. Still, I love there music and this DVD provides a nice video bio on the group. I only gave four stars because so much older material was repeated.

I wasn't sure if they would be into the WIggles as much with the change of a few cast members but they loved it even more. The loved the new songs and the new Wiggles...especially Emma. They are thrilled that there is a "girl Wiggle". They are already singing about buckling up in the car and bouncing around like Bunny Foo Foo. They also liked seeing cameos from former Wiggles and singing to some of the classic Wiggles tunes! Loved it!

So exsited
Yesterday My 10 year Old son got YUMMY YUMMY in the mail he's exited for this dvd yahay. we just can't wait much longer.

We love to Wiggle!
We love the Wiggles, old and new. This video has lots of new catchy tunes and some of the old favorites. There are cameos by Greg, Murray, and Jeff too! It was a fun way to introduce my 2yo twins to the new Wiggles crew. My hubby and I are often caught singing the songs and/or making up our own silly words. This is the first time there is a female Wiggle and you'll fall in love with Emma. We have one at our house/car and ordered one for Grandma's house. Enjoy!

The Company You Keep

Better title: "The Price You Pay"
The criticism of this movie was originally started by the press's talking heads, with them only knowing the movie's topic and Redford's politics.

I am conservative who is organically suspicious of the press and it's motives, regardless of the side they come down upon. So I went to see it anyways, mostly because I wanted to see a particular actor's performance. I AM CONVINCED THE PRESS MISSED THE ENTIRE POINT OF THE MOVIE.

This film does not glorify terrorism. Quite the opposite. It shows how a person can cross the line from being an "activist" to being a felon/terrorist. It is sort of a retrospective of an activist's two lives - one he had to abandon once he crossed the line, the other, the second life he had to build afterward. In both cases, the focus of this movie is more on the private price he inadvertently pushed off on loved ones to avoid paying his public price for his acts.

The reader must understand that Sloan was guilty of some felony...

Fantastic
The DVD is not yet available, but I saw the international screening of this movie in Venice back in September 2012. I did not get into the premier (I'm not a star or VIP), just a guy who loves to travel and wanted to see Jackie Evancho in her first major movie. I was able to get a ticket to the public screening. The movie will probably appeal to many, but mainly to the 60s generation and Jackie's fans. It is a well done portrayal of someone who did some bad things while protesting, went into hiding, changed his name and now his past has caught up to him. Jackie plays his daughter whom he will lose if he gets caught and blamed for a killing. He sends her to his brother's and then proceeds to try to find those from his past that might be able to help him. Jackie has about 12-15 minutes of on screen time in about 10 scenes. She, Robert and Shia are the only actors who are in scenes from the beginning of the movie until the very end. She does a wonderful and very believable job...

THE OVER THE HILL GANG
Sharon Solarz (Susan Sarandon) turns herself into the FBI. She was a long time Weatherman (SDS) fugitive that was involved in bank robbery decades ago where a person was killed. This sets off a chain of events that ripples through the other fugitives of the group, particularly NY attorney Jim Grant (Robert Redford) who for some reason never made it to Putney. Jim has a daughter (kudos to Jackie Evancho) and goes on the lam. He becomes the attention of a national man hunt and is also pursued by Albany reporter Ben Shepard (Shia LaBeouf) who broke the story. Ben discovers that this saga has layers.

The characters are not only well developed, but they evolve within the film. There is a slightly layered mystery. We get clues about each layer prior to it being revealed. The film utilizes the 60's movement as background with the expected speeches, but also looks at the human side of things which are not as black and white. Mildly heart warming too.

The film has a few...

MY KITCHEN IS MY TEMPLE
Love me, love my food, a simple rule for life. Amy (Heather Graham) lives in a delusional world where she has her own TV cooking show which openly equates food with sex. Her boyfriend Fred (Kevin Dillon) doesn't share in her compulsion and makes the mistake of openly loving his rare African parrot more than her food. The police (Joe Mantegna) is investigating the disappearance of the neighbor Saffron (Carrie-Anne Moss). Amy claims she knows Saffron, but clearly what she relates to the police is not the reality. Saffron is an actress who has fallen on hard times. Amy cooks for her not realizing Saffron is a closet bulimic, well not actually a bulimic in that she doesn't binge eat.

The film has great scenes of Heather's cleavage, cooking food and relating it to sex, eat your heart out Rachel Ray. Outside of that, the plot displayed weakness. You have a basic idea where the story is going to lead, just unsure how it gets there. Good character portrayals, unfortunately the...

Nice Food Shots, but...
You might like this movie if you enjoyed:
Fatal Attraction (1987), Single White Female (1992)

Long Story Short: A young woman (Heather Graham) with an extreme passion for food is suspected to be involved with the disappearing of her neighbor (Carrie-Anne Moss). While she is preparing a meal for the investigating officer she is reminiscing, and the truth slowly gets revealed.

Review: It saddens me to see Heather Graham in all these weird B-movies, but I guess once you did one, you are stuck in this genre forever. The movie starts very appealing by showing many different food shots and colors and Heather Graham in many different Stepford -wife -like outfits, and the story seems interesting, too. But after about 30 minutes it starts getting a little boring, there doesn't seem to be any character development, and I honestly don't remember the dialogues, because they have been so meaningless. It seems like Egidio Coccimiglio had a good idea but didn't know how to...

A One Trick Pony
If you own the books of Brett Easton Ellis, you'll find this total rehash. His characters' mind numbing gluttony of high fashion is cut and pasted to fine cuisine. There is also a fetish for nonsexual elements like Cronenberg explored and an ambition for a wide audience and a celebrity friendship like Scorsese's "King of Comedy." The performance itself is like a poor man's Nicole Kidman.

The Mindy Project: Season One

Hilariously Smart.
Mindy Kaling is not afraid to be a funny girl...and I love it! This show pokes fun at "true" girl life, but does it in such a way that it feels....um...awesome? "The Mindy Project" is probably one of the wittiest shows on television today. If you love humor in the style of Tina Fey, if you liked "Bridesmaids," and if you thought Kelly Kapoore was even remotely funny on "The Office", you will enjoy "The Mindy Project."

Funny and Entertaining
This show makes me laugh - and many of the medical scenarios are accurate with a funny Hollywood twist. I hope they're able to do more seasons because I really like Mindy Kaling.

Very funny!
I am so sad that 30 Rock is on its last season. The Mindy Project, I feel, will keep me from being too heartbroken.

Totally Spies: Wild Style

Wild Style: The Girls Wrap Up Season One With The Second Installment Of 13 Episodes
Debuting in 2001, "Totally Spies!" is a female-centric cartoon series that has carried on for over a decade now. With earlier seasons having aired on both ABC Family and the Cartoon Network and a sixth season finalized in 2012, the series has amassed a huge fan base around the world and launched a video game empire that includes a very popular online role playing game. Until now, though, its DVD presence has been somewhat spotty. They have only released a few 4 episodes DVDs leaving everyone wondering where the rest of the episodes were! Now it seems that fans can breathe a sigh of relief. Season One and Season Two are now on target to get full releases.

Season One releases in a two volume set on 8/13/13 and Season Two gets a two volume release on 10/8/13. Instead of labeling the DVDs by Seasons or Parts, however, they instead used a tagline that tells you nothing about what is inside the set that you are considering purchasing. I don't often comment on marketing or...

A Spy-tacularly Fab Series
Like, ever heard of "Totally Spies!" ? Y'know, three hot, young teen girls Sam, Alex, and Clover who have some wicked cool adventures as secret agents of the World Organization Of Human Protection or WOOHP for short. I'm sure you've heard of this series before because it was on the Cartoon Network a few years ago. Anywho, you can relive the fabulous adventures of these fine young ladies as they travel the globe stopping the cray-cray schemes of bad guys of all kinds and hope they make it back to school on time in their hometown of Beverly Hills.

This volume, "Wild Style" has the last 13 episodes from the first season such as:

"Wild Style" - A fiendish fashion designer named Helga Von Guggen creates a line of outfits that turn people into freaky animal-like creatures.
"The Black Widows" - The girls go undercover as cheerleaders "The WOOHP-ettes" in order to investigate a missing cheer squad replaced by a sinister team of robots.
"Evil Boyfriend" - Sam...

I Totally Love Totally Spies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! pt. 2
I love this show and can't wait for the whole series to get released and the only down part is that the season was split in half instead of being complete set.

The Pony

Jimmy, we hardly knew ye
Sesson 3 is starting out with the heart cut out of the plot, the charismatic and central Jimmy having been been gratuitously mowed down by the producers at the end of last season. So far, in this episode, BE retains the gorgeous sets and costumes, evocative music and stylish presentation that are a big part of its appeal, but the plot seems to be meandering and it remains to be seen if BE can recapture its former strength.

What's not to like?
This is obviously episodic television, but to my mind it borders on literature/art.

Boardwalk Empire revels in man's corruption, betrayal, sexual excess, prejudice, and pursuit of power for its own sake, with occasional glimpses of charity, love, personal and family loyalty, and incidental furtherance of the public good. Each character becomes the victim of their wrath, greed, pride/vanity, lust, or envy.

Boardwalk Empire is a cautionary tale made believable by realistic characters, sets, locations, and wardrobe.

Enjoy.

Never Fails
For adult crime drama with intelligent scripts and fascinating characters look no further. We enjoy every episode as if it were the first. Can't wait for the next season.

Sexecution

A Fun Independent Horror Flick
The actors do a great job in creating fun characters that are loose and irreverent. In particular the character of Erica drives the film playing a relentless unapologetic bad-girl. It's refreshing to see a female lead and one that gets the best lines. This isn't a film with buckets of blood, there are some gruesome scenes, but most of the film deals with the characters haplessly trying to get out of the dangerous situation they find themselves in. Highly recommended if you enjoy an indie dark comedy.

Paul the Apostle

in name only
Despite crediting a long list of Biblical experts, this made for television film is astonishingly inaccurate, but is still perhaps worth a rental; just don't expect to know much about the Apostle Paul from it, other than some rudimentary facts like his persecution of the early Christians before he was blinded by the light, and became a believer in Jesus.

It has a fabulously attractive cast, and all do an admirable job in the acting department. The main characters are Saul/Paul (Johannes Brandrup), Reuben (Thomas Lockyer), and Barnabas (G.W. Bailey).

Directed by Roger Young, whose other religious TV film from 1999, "Jesus", I found really ghastly and blasphemous, in "Paul, the Apostle" the acting and writing are far superior, and it is not offensive in its treatment of the Lord.

Shot on location in Quarzazate, Morocco and Malta, the cinematography by Giovanni Galasso is excellent, and it has a lovely score by Carlo Siliotto. The interiors and costumes...

not like the Bible Collection in accuracy at all!
this video is nothing more than artistic license with the Scriptures. My family was amazed at how many points we found in the Scriptures that were DIFFERENT than what was said or acted out in this film. We REALLY enjoy other parts of the Bible Collection films, such as Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, David, Solomon, Jeremiah, and Esther. BUT THIS ONE doesn't deserve to be named off with the B.C. set (nor the Sampson one). If you want to see some common yet erroneous doctrines presented, then this film won't bother you. The only part that was continously Biblical was the tension between the political religious parties. All else was corrupted and shoved together incorrectly. Finally, the "artistic license" taken where you see Saul/Paul go from being a wrestler, to the full naked backside of the characters, to a single nude breast of a woman later as her and hubby go to consumate, and the buttocks hanging out of a few others along the way....well, it was embarassing to see such...

Disappointing
I had high hopes for this film, but was soon disappointed. First, I think it's important to know that THIS IS NOT A FAMILY FILM. There are three scenes with gratuitous nudity (derrieres, breasts, etc) and sexual content (a sex scene and a nearly nude Nubian dancer). What kind of content is that to put into a religiously themed film?

Second, I had many difficulties with the "artistic license" used by the screen writer(s). Much of this film's contents is not in the Bible at all, much less mentioned in the extra-Biblical knowledge we have about Paul. Needless to say, this film should NOT be used as a teaching aide any more than the film "Pearl Harbor."

Third, the truly dramatic moments in Paul's life were handled very poorly. For example, the scene on the Road to Damascus could have been awsome -- if the movie had a better screen writer/director/actor ... and on and on and on. Instead, the writers and director seemed more interested in adding things folks who...

Three Short Films

Amazing Collection of Shorts
I must say that I was pretty excited to receive my copy of this collection of short films, especially Paper People. All three films were brilliantly done and very entertaining to watch. I hadn't heard of the other two short films, but I was blown away by the last film, You Don't Know Bertha Constantine. It was beautifully shot and the story was so touching and moving it brought me to tears. Bravo guys!

A short film must have!
This is a great collection of shorts with well written characters and riveting plot lines.
Wunderland is a glimpse of a moment at the front lines of WWII.
You Don't Know Bertha Constantine reflects devotion in the worst kind of adversity. I could relate strongly to Bertha's courage, determination, and loyalty.
Paper People, which has received a great deal of accolades at short film festivals, is intense and intriguing with an ending not to be missed.
The directing and writing team of Andrew Kightlinger and Luke Schuetzle are truly dynamic and I look forward to future productions from this duo.

A Must Have Collection
I have seen all three of these shorts by the Schuetzle Prodcution Company. Each one is well crafted. "Paper People" is a well written story with solid performances by the cast. It is well directed and the post production work is top quality. This short has swept the film festival circuit. "Wunderland" is a tense WWII battle scene. It was shot as a pilot for a web series. It was very well done. "You Don't Know Bertha Constantine", is a well written and performed story of a grieving widow struggling to honor her loved one's life. This award winning script transitioned to the silver screen nicely. The collection is a must have, if you like short films.

Arkansas Razorback Football 2013

Outstanding Video - gave us goose-bumps!
I'm a big-time Arkansas Razorbacks Football fan. So I've pretty much seen-it-all, and feel like my standards are set very high. That's why my wife and kids were so impressed when we watched this video, as it hits a professional high-mark that college sports DVDs rarely achieve. The opening sequence brings goose-bumps of excitement, and the content of the rest of the program (mostly the coaching staff and sports media analysts - intercut with team footage and player interviews), is snappy and to the point. And what is the point? I won't do a spoiler here, but let's just say that a lot of competitors in the S.E.C. are not going to expect what they're about to get when they take on this impressive 2013 Arkansas team!

Woo Pig Sooey! Go Razorbacks! GREAT VIDEO
My excitement for this coming season just doubled after seeing the new Razorbacks Football DVD. Two years ago, the head coach (Bobby Petrino) had the personality of a Grumpy Old Man. Last year, the "temporary" coach (John L. Smith) had the credibility of a stand-up comedian. But the new coach Bret Bielema is the real deal folks! Smart, focused, disciplined and proven. He seems like a really nice-guy too, but only when appropriate because he's clearly bad news for the other teams on game day! The video has a lot of interviews with coaches and player discussing strategies for the 2013 season, and lots of new footage from practices, scrimmages and training. This is a must-see video for all Razorbacks fans, but keep it quiet when talking to other S.E.C. friends! We don't want this year's opponents to be prepared for the whooping our Hogs are about to deliver on them! Whoop-Whoop-Woo-Pig-Sooey!!

Amy Bishop
O liked that the episode had former students of UAH telling their experience with the professor and of the event. The face that the doc had mainly reporters and authors recounting the information hey gathered rather than any input from the survivors or former friends was kind of disappointing. Maybe no one wants to speak. In this particular case, maybe there is not much more to say.

Wonderful escape TV
Snapped is a wonderful escape from daily reality. The re-enactments are somewhat silly, but do give you the general depiction of the narrators dialouge. If you are watching this show on TV, and have to suffer through commercials, then you may not notice the constant re-overview done to keep you up to speed. However, when watching this show commercial-free on my Kindle, the re-overviews and backtracking take up a great deal of the episode. It almost leads me to believe that the writers think viewers are stupid, or are not paying attention the first time the facts of the case are given. I don't need to be brought up to date four or five times per episode. The musical score is catchy and fits the theme nicely. Great show, but give the people watching a little more credit.

INTERESTING
Very interesting.
I love police cases.
There are true stories.
I recommend to U.
If you enjoy documentaries U need 2 watch this serie

Olympus Has Fallen [HD]

When this comes out in DVD, I will be purchasing.
I wasn't really sure what to expect when I went to this movie. The decent action flicks of yesterday have been replaced by superheroes shooting space aliens or super gory, gross movies that are so hardcore they turn me off before I ever get past the trailer. But this movie takes you back to the really cool action thrillers of yesteryear and frankly, I was riveted throughout.

The action is non stop and the acting is superb, especially for this type of movie. I had never seen Gerard Butler in a movie before but from now on, he is on my watch list. His portrayal of Mike Banning is gritty and down to earth, never over the top. Aaron Eckhart does a very good job with the rather thankless role of the Hostage In Chief. He, too, never stoops to caricature; just a man faced with a horrifying situation. Morgan Freeman and Angela Bassett are solid and realistic as the Speaker of the House and the Director of the Secret Service. Rick Yune is a absolute chiller of a villain...

Olympus Has Fallen Review
Best action movie of the year.
Even though the White House is a very unlikely site for the plot, it is not an unlikely story in view of the latest and older
developments in the recent history of the US.
Edge of your seat action, does not let off for a single minute. You will definitely never get bored.

Exciting, Edge of Your Seat (with some flaws)
This movie is fantastic for these people:

- You like the film concept of a foreign government capturing the President inside the White House, with a single hero (as in Die Hard) who tries to save the day (and the world) - against all odds.

- You're looking for an exciting, heart pounding, non-stop action flick.

- You like movies with lots of explosions, surprises, and situations that look really impossible.

- You don't care if there are some things about this film that are a bit cliché. They can work in films. And you're just looking for some entertainment anyway.

- You're okay with a character theme that's been done before. There's some time taken to show you the woundedness of Gerard Butler's character, and some of what makes him tick. It's not a new theme. You've seen this before. But you're ok with that.

This movie is not for you if:

- You can't stand cliché's in movies.
- You're...

Hatchet III: Rated R Version

A sequel that lives up to the original for once.
Let me first say that I love horror films. There have been more duds than successes in recent history, and to a fan of the genre, this fact is extremely disappointing. When I first heard about Hatchet in 2006, I became ecstatic. A film that would solely rely on practical effects opposed to CGI? This seemed like a dream come true, considering that recent films that had the potential to be logged into my all-time favorites list were ruined by computer generated effects (I.e. The Midnight Meat Train). Needless to say, Hatchet blew my mind. The humor was right on point, the acting was grade A, and the gore was both realistic and gut-wrenching. Also, the constant throwbacks to old-school horror films and guest appearances from vintage horror movie actors made a beaming smile spread across my face.
Then Hatchet II came along. The bar was set very high, because I expected a lot from Adam Green and the rest of the cast. Now, don't get me wrong; the movie wasn't terrible. The appearances...

Excellent!
This is an awesome continuation of the first two! Victor Crowley is nasty and brutal as ever! Most sequels tend to lack & by the 3rd, well, not good. This will not let you down!

Great for Hatchet fans
I can't really give a fair review of this because I love the Hatchet series so much. This is a perfect end to the series but I wouldn't mind seeing a fourth one.

I am a huge fan of Danielle Harris so watching her in any role is always a thrill for me. I also loved seeing Caroline Williams, I loved her in "Texas Chainsaw 2" and it was great to see her back in another campy horror film.

If you loved Hatchet and Hatchet 2 then you are gonna love this.

These movies aren't for everyone. My only regret is that I watched this online instead of in a theater. These seems like the type of movie that would be fun to watch in a theater with a bunch of other people.

Also Rileah Vanderbilt must be the most beautiful woman who has ever lived. She needs to be in more movies.

The New Girl

Good Concept, Shocking Murders
I enjoy watching these types of reality television programs and this one turned out to be quite good in the way it was constructed. The concept of having the best friend be the murderer is unique and very shocking. I have watched programs similar to this one where a spouse ends up being the victim and this show is even more unbelievable and disturbing some how.

My biggest objection after watching four episode is the title of the program, "I Killed My BFF". It is too cute and disrespectful for subject matter this serious. The network should have just spelled it out and called it "I Murdered My Best Friend" instead. It sounds better and more mature which should be the case considering the serious nature of the content involved.

I also prefer to watch thiry minutes instead of sixty minutes when it comes to this type of format. As I watched an episode I felt in most cases they really dragged the story out. One of my favorite crime reality programs is STALKED:...

Best Friends Forever...Right
Here's another true crime series that depicts how relationships can turn deadly. From gal pal's to best mate's, you never know when a woman, a man, envy, or money will come between best friends.

Silent Scream
It was so exciting to watch a former student act in this movie. Eddie Buck did a terrific job as Eric. It looked like an absolutely flawless performance. He 's a natural at acting. I hope the movie industry takes notice and puts him in more movies. The deaf community definitely wants to see more of him. I wasn't able to watch this at the time it was shown on tv so I'm really glad Amazon has this service. Thanks.
P.S. It was good to see that the people who made this movie used real deaf actors rather than hearing people who can sign. The deaf community will always prefer it to be done this way. Let's see more movies like this.

The Last Broadcast [HD]

Going out with a bang
Note that these are my thoughts on season five itself since I've already seen it. The DVD has not been released at the time of this writing, so I can't comment on the DVD extras.

Although I thought Season 4 was a bit rough (understandably, considering it was a character transition period), Season 5 definitely more than makes up for it.

Season five of Being Human recaptures the wonderful balance of humor and drama of season one, with a slight difference-- while Mitchell, George, and Annie seemed to have their own separate storylines that eventually meshed together, Hal, Tom, and Alex's stories are more intertwined from the start. This seems trivial until you see how close friends Hal, Tom, and Alex are in comparison with Mitchell, George, and Annie. Both groups are friends living together, but new trio seem inseparable compared to the original. They're all in it together-- Hal and his struggle with bloodlust and readjusting after 55 years of isolation from the...

Brilliant-you won't be disappointed!
This show continues to amaze and evolve. The writing is stellar as always, the actors stunning! I loved the story and really loved the characters. I hate to see this series end...but if it had to end...it couldn't have been done better! Hats off to all involved!

All Good Things Must Come To An End: The Boo, The Bite And The Beast Face Their Final Challenge
After five supernatural seasons, the British hit "Being Human" concludes its run in dramatic fashion. It doesn't seem that long ago that we were introduced to a trio of best friends kicking it with Mitchell (Aiden Turner), George (Russell Tovey), and Annie (Lenora Crichlow). Having said our tearful goodbyes to all of the principles over the past few season (Crichlow was the last to part at the end of Season Four), the final season appears decidedly different in every regard except one. The fundamental premise of having a vampire, a werewolf, and a ghost chasing normalcy and acceptance in the modern world is still a terrifically engaging idea. Through the years, the show has had lightness and humor as well as brutality and tragedy. In fact, that's perhaps its most successful accomplishment. The program could be terribly silly and fun at times, but gut wrenching and disturbing at others. This blend of moods is hard to achieve effectively, but "Being Human" has succeeded as a...

Wrath Of Gods

The Burden of Sturla's Dream!
Many MANY years ago, being a dedicated Werner Herzog fan, I went to see the documentary, "Burden of Dreams" which was based on the many trials and tribulations of filming his incredible movie, "Fitzcarraldo" in the jungles of Peru. "Wrath of Gods" could be its Icelandic cousin. There seem to be certain films that fight against their creators. Their directors, crew, and cast must give all they have, and sometimes even a bit more, in order to see their dream realized. Indeed, there are moments during WOGs when the forced smile on director Sturla Gunnarsson's face melts into something sad and desperate; those are among the most beautiful moments in this film, because that sadness and desperation added to the haunting (and I mean that in the most lovely and primal way) beauty of what became "Beowulf & Grendel". There is no happy, storybook ending here; the film did poorly by Hollywood standards, but so what?! The film is ultimately true to the prose, true to the raging, frozen,...

Outstanding interview with Gerry!
I can't believe what I'm seeing...a solid hour interview with Gerry Butler AFTER a grueling workday on the set. I'm amazed at his patience under the visible stress of an aching head and body after braving the Icelandic weather to shoot this revealing documentation. How much more can he do to show his appreciation for the support of his fans worldwide? His behavior speaks volumes about the depth of his character and his commitment to excellence and dedication as an actor. His star is definitely rising and he is indeed 'paying his dues'...he is not afraid to shoulder the tough roles, transforming himself into a character in ways that startle directors and producers alike. When he signs on to play a role they can be assured of this: they will get much, much more than their money's worth from the likes of this humble, towering Scotsman who has his feet planted solidly on the ground and who has restored the grandeur of moviemaking. Don't look for his handsome face in the gossip rags...

Better than Beowulf! Mother Nature at Her Wildest!
I liked Beowulf the film in spite of the unpolished, anachronistic script, because of the gorgeous scenery, excellent costume and set work, and good performances by the title characters. For me the best part was Iceland itself; its vistas and its unbelievable weather, and this is where Wrath of the Gods surpasses the film by far. I think it gives insight into formation of the culture when people struggle to survive in such a place. Highly recommended for anyone interested in filmmaking.

Screen Test

Suprisingly Enjoyable Movie
I rented this movie for a cheap thrill and a couple of chuckles, and ended up viewing a surprisingly entertaining and downright funny movie. Sort of an early American Pie, this movie follows four boys in their quest to get laid. This is where the paths of the two movies divirge, however, the boys unite under the idea of holding auditions for a phony porno flick. This is where the movie really starts to get funny. Be forewarned, however, that this movie is not really intelectual humor, but if you are a fan of Adam Sandler, Chris Farley, or any other comedians of this type, you should definately give this movie a try.

Toxic

Good but...
I've watched the first two episodes of the show so far, and I'm not sure what to think of it. There are parts I like, and parts I immediately reject. I like that they're not just recycling the same rouge's gallery as every other Batman series, and they're digging into some of the lesser-known villians and making them interesting. I don't like the changes to Alfred, however. Turning him into an ex-MI6 agent (who miraculously can't hear an antique car pulling up directly in front of him)seems like a cheap gimmick to reinvent the character. As a result he seems more like Jason Statham than Alfred Pennyworth. He was fine the way he was, and I think the change was entirely unnecessary.

Besides that, the Batman himself seems like a good iteration of the character... but there is one part in the second episode that stands out to me. He's talking with the woman who will become Katana, and out of the blue starts profiling her out loud for her to hear. Now if Batman was doing this to...

Great new take on batman
Very well done and love the change of his butler!! The villains are fresh which makes the show more interesting !!

Almost as good as Batman: The Animated Series
Beware the Batman had a good start. But the first episode that really impressed me was the second episode with Magpie. Anarky has potential but his episode was fairly bland compared to the others. As the series progressed, though, the better the episodes seemed to get. Humpty Dumpty was a chilling villain, and the League of Shado... er, excuse me, Assassins are intriguing. It was the latest two episodes though, that for the first time allowed me to say that the show was almost as good, if not as good as Batman: The Animated Series. I won't give anything away, but for a while the problem that I had with the show was the lack of emotional death that the movies and the animated series seemed to have through and through. "Toxic" cures that problem from multiple angles, and also makes more connections to episodes in the past. "Family" I loved because of the amount of darkness in it, the thrilling development of Katana and Batman's tests, the twists and the turns, everything...

Super 8 [HD]

Entertaining, engrossing and extra-terrestrial - Derivative but from the very best
Super 8 is admittedly not a perfect film, but I enjoyed it so much, and was so taken by the characters and the actors playing them, that I didn't really mind the occasional inconsistency or lingering "awed expressions" scene.

Set in a small town in Ohio in 1979, the basic plot centers around Joe Lamb (Joel Courtney), a 13-year-old boy whose mother recently died in a factory accident, leaving him with only his father, Jackson (Kyle Chandler), a sheriff's deputy who's a more than decent man but who has never known how to really be a father. Jackson's escape is burying himself in his work, while Joe's is helping his best friend Charles (Riley Griffiths) make an amateur zombie movie with the help of their other friends Preston (Zach Mills), Martin (Gabriel Basso) and Cary (Ryan Lee). But Joe's involvement becomes truly committed when Charles persuades Alice Dainard (Elle Fanning), a girl he secretly has a crush on, to join the project.

Things taken a sudden turn...

This movie is "Mint!"
I saw Super 8 at IMAX today. LOVED it and want to see it again, soon! I laughed, I cried, and I jumped up out of my seat 8 times! It was a fun, fun nostalgic ride on an early summer afternoon. The late 1970's music, costumes, location, and set props were right on. Fantastic cinematography, sound design, and special affects.

Ahhhh, but this movie has heart in the story and in the acting. Kyle Chandler, Elle Fanning, and the new young actor who plays Joe Lamb steal the movie. This 'coming of age' story is set in a more innocent time, before middle schoolers began 'hooking up.' The rest of the kids who make up the motley film crew are believably hilarious. Each cleverly has his or her own specialty in film making. You can only imagine a young JJ Abrams doing the same thing when he was a boy.

Super 8 is not the BEST movie I've ever seen, and the ending is somewhat predictable. But it is the BEST movie I've seen in a long, long time.

1 of the Best films I've seen in 2011 - 5 Stars for both movie and blu-ray transfer
First off, I just finished watching an advance blu-ray copy of this film and the movie and blu-ray transfer blew me away. IMO, this film is one of the very best of 2011 and if you are a fan of "old-fashioned" type drama/suspense films that have to do with extra-terrestrial life and what happens to a small rural community in the late 1970's is truly a film that will stay with you long after the movie's end. To give any more away would be a sin, so I won't.

The blu-ray video and audio is fantastic. The aspect ratio is what appears to be 2.35:1 or thereabouts (Amazon has it wrong at 1.85:1). The video throughout is pristine with vivid colors in the daylight scenes and ink blacks in the night scenes. Details are vivid as you would expect from a top-notch blu-ray transfer. The audio equals the quality of the video and I've had to monitor the volume because I live in an apartment and use a 9.1 speaker configuration. Vocals came mainly from the center speaker along with the...

New Scars and Old Wounds- Part I [HD]

Superior ensemble cast with edge-of-your-seat suspense
The story played out through a multi-national cast is unique: personalities, cultural assumptions, mannerisms, even language is very different between the team members. This global perspective should happen more often on provincial American television. Stories are well-rendered and complex. Sometimes it is so suspenseful, I found myself wanting to roll through to the resolution. But, never mind. Watch ever second. You won't be disappointed.

Great Pilot- spoilers included
The two episodes that comprised the Pilot were wonderfully a mix of American and European flavor. The case was worth watching, had a wonderful flow, it was actually interesting. The choice of criminal... well the actor was not quite up to the role, in my opinion. Or the choice was a bit wrong to make the character as he was, viciously goofy is the best way I can say it. He came across as more pathetic than anything else. Was there an intent to show that murderers are pathetic little creeps? I wonder. Some intensity was lost because of the murderer's portrayal.

I can not explain exactly what intrigued me so much as a show without a compelling villain is usually doomed. Perhaps it is the actors and the beautiful chemistry they have as a group. The loss of one agent/officer, the oldest woman on the team was difficult. She was easy to watch, she captured my attention when she was on the screen. I was sorry to see her character go.

Louis is a damaged but charismatic...

good quality
This show I found by accident. Boy am I glad I did.
Interesting characters and tight story lines make me waiting anxiously for the next season

Pretty horrible show for a lot of reasons...
I just saw the episode titled Memory. Here are some of the things wrong with it...

1. I'm not saying I'm a genius, but where did they find those people? Except for the very first test, almost nothing in any of their memory tests fooled me like they said they fooled 100% of people they tested. Perhaps this was because, after the very first test, I knew I was going to be fooled by them. But getting pretty much every single thing right every time got very boring really fast. It's fun to be fooled, but their tests were way too easy.

2. They said that Travis Walton probably didn't really get abducted because he remembered everything "too well." Really? Six men saw a space ship up close, and then one of them disappeared without a trace for a week. But his memory played tricks on him, and he had a false memory of things in great detail that many other people have also remembered, including accounts written down in the 1800s that were completely forgotten until...

Great Series
My Psychology Student's love it. It shows just how "wrong" we can be about what we think we hear and see.

A Hopeful Start...
I watched the episode of this series on memory. Some quotes: "Remembering is Believing" "... the story is familiar-we tend to overestimate its truth..." "... this is a psychological phenomenon known as the 'Illusion of Truth Effect' "! I should have liked this show especially given my absolute distrust of our running-dog media and the abuses of current propagandistic pop history. The crux of this episode was the fallibility of human memory and how easy false memories or inaccurate memories are to create. Sadly that same running-dog mentality reared its ugly head with an awkward and false drubbing of 9/11 conspiracy theorists. There are PLENTY of real reasons to believe 9/11 was a true conspiracy other than Bush's so called memory lapse about planes hitting the tower. To include that vignette in this episode was a cowardly roll-over to satisfy current Official History and its neocon Keepers. The Tiananmen tank photo with the crowd of onlookers aroused twisted memories in subjects...

The Color of Magic Night 2

Casts a Spell...
This is a funny, charming spellcaster from the Discworld stories of Sir Terry Pratchett, who is the funniest science fiction writer ever. Wizards, dragons, a walking trunk and the sex of a gigantic turtle all play a part in this adventure. David Jason as the wizard Rincewind is grumbling and repeatedly resigned to his fate as Death appears time and time again to collect him. I can never look at a tourist again without smiling after seeing Sean Astin as Twoflower, taking photos, and happily wanting to see all the sights.
This film was made in 2008, but still has enough CG to enchant. It is tame enough for kids to enjoy.

Nightmares Come at Night: Remastered Edition [Blu-ray]

Not for the Franco beginner
Jess Franco's "Nightmares Come at Night" aka "Les Cauchemars naissant la nuit" is important for two reasons. First, it's a movie that sounds far more important when referred to by its French title. Two, the gorgeous Soledad Miranda of "Vampyros Lesbos" and "She Killed in Ecstasy" fame turns up in a very small part. Fans of this exquisite Spanish beauty will love to see her in another Franco film, even if she's only onscreen for a matter of one or two minutes despite receiving prominence on the DVD case. "Nightmares," it turns out, is a rather obscure effort from director Franco that disappeared for a number of years. Many feared this film lost until it recently resurfaced just in time for the DVD revolution. After sitting through the roughly eighty minute runtime of "Les Cauchemars naissant la nuit," I'm beginning to understand the reasons for its obscurity; it's not the sort of film that would endear itself to a large audience. In terms of plot and linear continuity, "Nightmares"...

Lurid and Moody ...
Jess Franco's NIGHTMARES COME AT NIGHT was much better than I was expecting. This doesn't have Soledad Miranda in much of it, despite her billing on the box cover and still photos. However, the story and atmosphere was very close to the Franco film A VIRGIN AMONG THE LIVING DEAD in some of it's pace and moodiness. Franco's cinematragraphy seems a bit tighter here and Bruno Nicolai gives an inspiring score as always.

This film isn't for everyone and I am sure some Franco fans may cry foul at this release. Proceed with caution.

lesbians seeing stuff
This is a pretty okay film about a lesbian who sees things and blacks out and hurts people. And the people who loved her and who manipulated her and things like that.

You know, some things were certainly happening in this movie, but I couldn't figure if the director intended for me to care or not. Or whether I was really supposed to know anything at all or not. But I didn't mind, I just went with the flow. Pretty fun movie to watch.

It's in a threepack with Werewolf Woman and Flesh for the Beast for actually a couple of bucks less, so you'll definitely want to pick that up instead of this dvd by itself. It's the same DVD as listed here too, so if you hate triplefeatures on single disks there's no problem there.

Episode 2

A Moody Seven Part Miniseries That Explores The Darkness Of A Small New Zealand Community
The enigmatic seven-part miniseries "Top of the Lake" is a slow burn mystery that takes its time to unravel. But, in many ways, this is more than just a traditional crime drama. The location becomes a significant (if not the most significant) character in a study of a community in isolation. Gorgeous New Zealand locales serve as the exotic backdrop to a land defined by those who inhabit it. It's not an easy place to escape as our heroine (Elizabeth Moss) discovers. As a detective returning to her home town, Moss is undeniably haunted by her past and wanting some form of closure. When an underage girl becomes pregnant, Moss is put on the case and she starts to work out her own demons as well. Can she save both the girl and herself? Beauty and tranquility are juxtaposed with crime and desperation. In the hands of Oscar winner Jane Campion (The Piano), "Top of the Lake" plays to some of the same themes as AMC's recent "The Killing" with a dash of "Twin Peaks" thrown in. It's a dark,...

I keep wanting season 2
so good. subtle, moody, quiet. Has that crooked insight David Lynch films have without the quirky distractions. Beautifully done. Season 2 please!!!

Beautiful and haunting
this is my new favorite show (2nd only to The Newsroom).
The script is thoughtful and provocative. The acting is exceptional. It is a sad and disturbing story, but not without hope. Well done.
